I went to see Children of Men last night and it is the best movie I’ve seen in months. Set in 2027 a former activist (Clive Owen) becomes involved in a mission to transport a pregnant immigrant to the UK border in a world where the women are barren. The impeccable filming captured the dismal and hopeless society that had evolved from a children-less world. It is a disturbing film filled with grim, despair, and at times “in-your-face” violence. I particularly like the way that political undertones, reminiscent of present day, such as Homeland Security and the war in Iraq, are carefully intertwined in the storyline. Even though there are a few glimpses of hope and faith in the movie I left the theater in a somber state. It had a profound impact on me. I definately recommend going to see this movie.
Jen Kober commedienne
•January 24, 2007 • 2 CommentsI saw a fantastic comedienne last night at the Stardome. Her name is Jen Kober. I laughed so hard I though I had hurt myself a few times. First thing I did when I got home last night was to add her as a friend on Myspace. The thing I liked most about her show was the parody songs she performed. Not only was she a funny chick but this girl could sing too! Check out her website www.jenkober.com.
2 down
•January 22, 2007 • 1 CommentI made an offer on another house yesterday. It was my second in 1 week. Today the sellers countered and weren’t budging. They didn’t come a nickel off there price. Apparently, there were more offers on the house behind mine that were better. Oh well, I refuse to be house poor. I at least want to be able to buy some nice furniture and add a little of my own flavor once I move in. So, I’m holding steady to my limit. Hopefully I’ll find the right house for the right price soon.
Surgery for Zoe
•January 19, 2007 • Leave a CommentI have to take my puppy (1 yr old) to have a growth removed from her elbow today. She will likely come home with one of those cones on her head. I’m wondering how long it will take for her to rip that thing off. Do they make ones made of stainless steel? She’s certainly a rowdy lab with a mind of her own. I hope she does well at the vet and comes home better this afternoon.
House hunting
•January 18, 2007 • Leave a CommentI’ve been house hunting for about a month now and I’ve seen probably 30-40 homes. I found one this past saturday that I loved. I knew when I walked in that I’d be making an offer by the end of the day. Unfortunately, four other people felt the same way. There was a contract put in before mine so the sellers had to deal with that one first. Even though my offer had only one contingency (Home Inspection) the sellers took the first offer. I’m a little sad but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. Hopefully there is something better out there!
It’s a shame how much time I spend on Myspace
•January 17, 2007 • 1 CommentAt 34 years old I can’t believe how much time I spend on the social networking website Myspace. It has replaced a long list of my “I can’t wait to do” things like checking snail mail, checking email, playing softball, going out to party, or getting dessert. It’s the first thing I do in the morning and the last thing I do before I go to sleep. Myspace is an addiction. I’m sure of it. I’m living proof. I believe it’s because of the immediate gratification of combined socializing sources. There are words and pictures and videos and music and chat and, you get the point. Geez, Tom must be a billionaire by now.
Weight Watchers Sample Menu
•January 16, 2007 • Leave a CommentI’ve learned that planning the day’s meals is much easier for me on this “diet.” It makes it better when I have things to look forward to instead of grabbing something on the fly.
Here’s what I had to eat yesterday. I never got hunger throughout the day.

1 cup of Fat Free Skim Milk

1 Strawberry Frosty (WW)
1 bag Orville Redenbacher’s 94% Fat Free Butter, Popped
Broken promises
•January 15, 2007 • 1 CommentWhen I said I’d blog everyday, I meant every WEEKday. Really, I did. Also, when I said that I quit smoking, I did, but I fell off the wagon this weekend. I’m trying, I really am.
Now, on the flip side, I have stuck to my lifestyle change. I used a Weight Watcher’s receipe to make Egg Salad Sandwiches last night. I was very surprised at how good it was. I haven’t felt hungry once. My biggest battles will be sweets, I just gotta stay away from the candy! So far, so good.
I joined…again
•January 12, 2007 • 1 CommentToday a co-worker and I joined Weight Watchers. I actually rejoined. I spent about 4 months in the program before I moved to another city about 2 years ago. It’s the best weight loss/management program I’ve ever done. On the brink of turning 35 I’ve realized, now more than ever, that I need to be more health conscious. My body is not as forgiving as it once was. Plus, I want to be HOT for once in my life.
I always have the best intentions and some really good ideas, but my follow thru lacks a little to be desired. I’m going to attempt to blog once a day about my journey to a healthier me. I’m also going to try to look at it as a lifestyle change, not as a diet.
